Home Fragrance Oil

There are many reasons why might wish to have home fragrance oil:

• To give your home a warm and relaxed aroma
• To suppress an odorous environment.

You could choose to use one of the branded products on the market many of which give off a splendid aroma they are however expensive and you cannot be sure of their effects on you or on the environment.

Alternatively you can consider making your own.  This is not as difficult as first it seems and has advantages as you can be sure ingredients are natural and do not harm either you or the environment.  There is no need to overcomplicate process with unusual ingredients which are difficult to source or to invest in expensive machines to do it.   The key points to concentrate are:

• The right ingredients (simple natural ingredients)
• Follow the proper steps
• Your imagination (perhaps the most important ingredient)

The two most important types of home fragrance oils are: essential oils and synthetic fragrance oils.  Essential oils are natural originating from plants and have health benefits.  Synthetic fragrance oils are cheaper; contain synthetic (artificial) material.  Both oils come in a concentrated form and need to be diluted to produce functional home fragrance oil.

Simple steps on how to make home fragrance oil.

Choose a base oil or ‘carrier oil’.  The oil which is best is Jojoba oil which is good for the skin.  Other alternatives are grape seed oil, amica oil, or the cheaper vegetable oil.

Next the scented oil.  Choose a scent which suits you or a scent which is attractive to everyone.  You will find concentrated scented oil on the internet, at a local supermarket, or the local health food shop.

Choose a bottle with tight sealed cap. An attractive, colourful, decorative bottle will add appearance your home fragrance oil.

Now pour the base oil into the bottle.

Carefully add a several drops of the scented oil to the base oil.  Gauge the strength of the scent by rubbing it on your skin.

Store the bottle in a dark place with the cap tightened and sealed.   The home fragrance oil will be ready to use after four to five days.
